Soon I will start writing of the experience I had in Vietnam from August 2019 - March 2020. This will be a three-fold storyline with the focus on being:
1. ESL Teacher
2. Christian
3. South African
Intro
During these 8 months, I will recall some of my experiences, observations, questions, and how they related to these three aspects. Here I will just write in summary and will go I more detail in separate blog titles as per the three aspects. As far as the "revelations" go, I will connect them to my themes in my mind, as I formed them during my lifespan and make connections to books I read along the way. In this manner, I will also link to books, websites, and youtube channels that I have used or found, related to these themes and subjects. In this way, I would like to connect with people on social media, beginning here and websites like Goodreads and LibraryThing and even supply links my Amazon Affiliate Store, where books can be bought for further support of my reading/study.
Purpose of my visit to Vietnam.
As I am in a retired stage in my career and after being retrenched in 2012, I was blessed to find contract work, from time to time, but sooner or later, the opportunities run out in our country for obvious reasons. In order to still generate some income, I was advised by a friend to consider teaching English (ESL) in Vietnam. I soon started to take my ESL course and in August 2019 flew to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon).
Reason for returning
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic ( I will later publish my opinion on this (P)landemic), which already surfaced in December 2019 in Asia, the schools were continuing their shutdown after the TET (Chinese NewYear) of 29 January 2020. Although my Director (CEO of English Center) advised me to go back to my country, I hang around looking for other opportunities. (More about this in the 1. ESL Teacher Blog). With limited money on me, I had to make a decision, or stay around or buy a air ticket back to South Africa. Eventually, I flew back on the 13 March 2020.
Well, this is the long and the short of the story. Different readers of this blog will be interested in different aspects and I will continue to discuss them in the individual three blogs.
